Transform Your Collages with 10 Acrylic Paint Skins

So what are acrylic paint skins?

These little pieces of collage magic are thin layers of dried acrylic paint that end up on your palette after a day of painting. These are a game-changer for adding dimension, texture, and pops of color to your art. In this video I will show you 10 different ways to create these paint skins to create detailed patterns and fun prints.

Here are some key tips to help you get started:

  • By using thicker paints like golden heavy body paint, you can create deliberate designs on the palette paper that later peel off easily once dried. Adding a layer of gel or matte medium over the paint helps to ensure that the paint can be lifted flawlessly, which also adds flexibility to the paint skin.
  • Play with textures! I love embedding materials into the wet paint and creating meshy, lacey, honeycomb, experiments in paint skins.
  • Add some sparkle to it, don’t be afraid to play with mica flakes for a sparkley finish.
